Brigade MM
Bangalore

This is a new evolving typology in Ind

Located at the edge of MM Industries estate on one side and interfacing with streets of varying widths, buildings of various land use and character on other three sides, the Brigade MM Project is a solution to a very complex Urban in fill architectural problem.

The built form conceived as a visual barrier to the existing MM Industrial estate with its usual symbols of industrial landscape consisting of monotonous, asbestos clad, saw toothed roofed structure, numbing the viewers sensibilities into submission through the sheer monotony of their ugliness. This building ushered in a new lease of life to the neighborhood by sowing seeds for its regeneration.  The results are there to see.  The monolith comprises of 5 blocks – 4 industrial and one commercial.

The four industrial blocks with independent entries, lifts and staircases and share centralized facilities.  They have a north-south orientation to facilitate ideal light and ventilation throughout the day.  500feet of combined road frontage gives each unit a measure of prominence and scope for display of the products manufactured.

At least 70% of the industrial flats have mezzanine space which enables the users to either locate the offices or storage separate from production area.  The simple structure grid would allow the tenants to organize their space to suit their own needs.  Maintaining the continuity of the commercial land use along K.R.Road is the fifth block which consists of office and retail spaces along the road.  A major out door space is provided abutting its commercial annexe and the road.  The plaza is designed to serve as a reprieve for the users of the industries and the surrounding community.  It provides a meeting and recreational space and serves as focus for pedestrian circulation.

Soya Bean Oil Extration Plant
Ujjain

The soyabean oil plant was designed for Madhya Pradesh oil federation, NDDB (National Dairy Development Board).  Anand were the key consultants.

The plant was designed for processing 400 tons of soyabeans daily.  The process involved several steps of operation starting from cleaning, washing etc.and oil extraction.

The ware houses were the largest single component housing the raw soyabean, the oil and the by-products such as residual de-oiled cake.  The kilometer long warehouse with its vaulted roof was a perfect foil when juxtaposed with the various plants on the opposite side of the road, the forms of which were dictated by the processes they housed.  The movement spine finds its termination in the central water tank.
